Translation
"Obeisances to Narayana — the Supreme Lord, the shelter of all living beings."
Meaning
The eight-syllable mantra to Narayana — Vishnu, the Lord of Vaikuntha. "Nara" means living beings, "ayana" means shelter: Narayana is the One in whom all souls reside. In Gaudiya understanding Narayana is Krishna's majestic expansion; the power of His name is shown in the story of Ajamila, saved by once uttering "Narayana" (Bhagavatam, Canto 6).
